This new series of paintings are conceptually based on the depiction of space in an abstract way. I want to create new possibilities of expressing beauty and gesture with the simplicity of paint on canvas.
My paintings usually start with a color idea, then evolve into compositions in which color is the primary subject. To me, art is a synthesis of my personality, the subject or colors that inspire me and my materials and techniques. Speed and simplicity are my primary goals.
I usually work quickly, applying paint as a real substance with its own weight and character. I'm looking for a spontaneous, gestural honesty in every mark.
It's like trying to suspend the rational, logical part of my brain, so that something less rational and unexpected can emerge. Mistakes are the source of new pathways.
Stylistically, it contains elements of expression and illusionism.
and in terms of execution, I use multi-layered backgrounds, impasto, additives such as marble dust and concrete mixed with the paint, and occasionally, Guinness.
